I. Air-covered yarn (referred to as air-covered, English abbreviation ACY) is a type of yarn formed by simultaneously drawing outer-covered continuous filament and spandex filament through a certain type of nozzle, where high-compressed air is regularly sprayed to create rhythmic network points. Its fabric has a soft and smooth feel;
II. Mechanical-covered yarn (referred to as mechanical-covered, English abbreviation SCY) is a type of yarn produced by continuously rotating and winding the outer-covered continuous filament onto the core spandex filament, which is being drawn at a constant speed. It is twisted and has a twist (English abbreviation TPM). Its main characteristic is a flat and crisp fabric style.
Both air-covered yarn and mechanical-covered yarn have their own advantages and disadvantages when woven in downstream weaving mills. Air-covered yarn generally requires sizing during warping on air-jet looms, otherwise the fabric is prone to pilling and filament breakage, etc., but it can be used directly for weft insertion. From a cost perspective alone, the production capacity of air-covered yarn is significantly higher than that of mechanical-covered yarn, making its price lower than mechanical-covered yarn, which helps reduce the costs for downstream weaving mills. Although mechanical-covered yarn does not expose its core filament and generally does not easily cause quality problems during spinning and weaving, apart from uneven twist, its output is low. Therefore, its price is more than RMB5000/T higher than air-covered yarn of the same specification, and the price of fine denier covered yarn is even more than RMB10000/T higher than air-covered yarn of the same specification, which significantly increases the cost of using mechanical-covered yarn.
