How is polyester modified?
Release time:

Summary:
Compared to natural fibers, polyester has disadvantages such as low moisture content, poor breathability, poor dyeability, susceptibility to pilling and fuzzing, and easy soiling. To improve these shortcomings, methods of chemical modification and physical deformation are adopted. Chemical modification methods include:
① Copolymerization with monomers or oligomers containing hydrophilic groups, such as polyethylene glycol, can increase the moisture absorption rate of fibers;
② Copolymerization with monomers having antistatic properties can improve the antistatic and anti-soiling performance of fibers;
③ Adding compounds containing phosphorus, halogens, and antimony to improve the fiber's flame retardancy;
④ Using polyester spinning with a lower degree of polymerization to improve anti-pilling ability;
⑤ Copolymerization with dye-affinity monomers (e.g., sulfonates) to improve the dyeability of fibers;
Physically deformed polyesters include various types of profiled polyester, composite spinning with other polymers, colored polyester, fine denier polyester, and high shrinkage polyester.
