Summary:
Polyester fiber has high strength, high modulus, and low water absorption, making it widely used as both civilian and industrial fabrics. As a textile material, polyester staple fiber can be spun purely, and is especially suitable for blending with other fibers; it can be blended with natural fibers such as cotton, linen, and wool, and also with other chemical staple fibers such as viscose fiber, acetate fiber, polyacrylonitrile fiber, etc. Its pure-spun or blended fabrics, such as imitation cotton, imitation wool, and imitation linen, generally possess the excellent original properties of polyester fiber, such as fabric wrinkle resistance, pleat retention, dimensional stability, abrasion resistance, and wash-and-wear properties. Some original shortcomings of polyester fiber, such as static electricity during textile processing, dyeing difficulties, poor sweat absorption and breathability, and easy melting into holes when exposed to sparks, can be mitigated and improved to some extent with the blending of hydrophilic fibers. Polyester twisted filament (DT) is mainly used for weaving various imitation silk fabrics, and can also be interweaved with natural fibers or chemical staple fiber yarns, or with silk or other chemical filaments. Such interweaved fabrics retain a series of advantages of polyester.
Polyester textured yarn (mainly DTY low-elastic yarn) is a major variety developed in China in recent years. Unlike ordinary filaments, it is highly fluffy, has a large crimp, strong wool-like feel, softness, and high elastic elongation (up to 400%). Fabrics woven with it have good warmth retention, excellent coverage and drape, and soft luster, making them particularly suitable for weaving suit fabrics such as imitation woolens and serge, outerwear, jackets, and various decorative fabrics such as curtains, tablecloths, and sofa fabrics. Polyester air-textured yarn (ATY) and networked yarn have good cohesion and smoothness, and can be directly used in water-jet looms in cone form, suitable for weaving imitation silk and thin fabrics, and also for medium-thick fabrics. The application of polyester fiber in industry, agriculture, and new technology fields is also increasingly widespread, such as tire cords, conveyor belts, ropes, and electrical insulation materials. Polyester strong filament has high strength and initial modulus, good heat resistance, fatigue resistance, and morphological stability, making it particularly suitable for spinning tire cords. Using polyester cords to manufacture tires can reduce the flat spot phenomenon.
